Through gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy for Christian Science,...
Through gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy for Christian Science, and with the hope of helping another, this testimony is given. I am indeed grateful for a healing I received three years ago of the need for glasses, which I had worn for some years. An oculist had told me I should always have to wear them. This was a slow healing, but I have been thankful that in the effort to gain a better understanding many things were unfolded which have helped me in making later demonstrations. When the realization came that sight is eternal, and can be neither lost nor destroyed, the healing was complete.
I have had many proofs of God's care, but one outstanding experience was that of courage to stand and wait on God in a time of great mental stress, when everything that meant material happiness was about to be taken away. Error seemed to be screaming on every side, and no help was in sight; but I shall be eternally grateful that I had Christian Science to rely upon. First came the loss of position and income, when it looked as if the home would go; then loss of friends and separation from loved ones, illness, and financial strain. This testing time lasted for several months, with times of discouragement, when there seemed to be no apparent progress toward demonstration. But as I clung steadfastly to Truth, with the help of a loving and always willing practitioner, each argument was overcome; and our Leader's statement in Science and Health (p. 254), "When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path," was indeed proved to be true.
My gratitude is deep for church activity during this trying time. Mortal mind argued many times that the load was too heavy and the burden too great, but I learned to know God as my strength and the only power. Through this experience I was given the opportunity to help others, thereby seeking my own in another's good. I am grateful for learning to express true gratitude. I knew so little of this before studying Christian Science. My daily prayer is that I may live my gratitude.
