Among the Churches

Bexhill-on-Sea Observer

Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, England (First Church).—The dedication of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Bexhill, took place on Sunday, April 29, 1935. Christian Science churches cannot be dedicated until entirely free of debt.

As is customary, no special form of service was used; a simple dedication notice, together with a short historical sketch of the progressive steps taken by the church, was read at both services by the First Reader.

The historical sketch read in part as follows: "In the year 1905, out of gratitude for a healing in Christian Science, the first Christian Science services in Bexhill were held in a resident's house on Sunday mornings. It was soon realized that public services were needed, and a room in the Church Institute, Station Road, was hired for that purpose. In 1907, the small group of pioneer workers organized as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and became Christian Science Society, Bexhill.
