It is with a firm conviction of the power of God to heal...

It is with a firm conviction of the power of God to heal mentally that I wish to acknowledge my experience of His care and protection, as worked out through a study of Christian Science.

My college training having been in the school of physical education, it is easy to see that I had made a thorough so-called scientific study of man as taught by courses in anatomy, physiology, hygiene, and like subjects. Upon leaving school I went into the profession of teaching. For some five or six years all went reasonably well; then I was faced with what was called by doctors and educators a nervous breakdown, the best physician of Seattle not being able to discover any bodily difficulty.

It seemed to me that I was losing my mind, and knowing little of the governing divine Mind I felt hopelessly lost. Because of the contact I had with Christian Science through my mother—although I had previously had little respect for what I presumed it to be—as a last resort I studied it day after day, week after week. I pondered the words, "God said, Let there be light: and there was light," from the Bible; also, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation," from Science and Health (p. 468) by Mrs. Eddy. Nothing seemed to take place, but I learned that, as our Leader states, "Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony" (ibid., p. 471). I had passed through a fog so dense that I saw no signpost; but the final clarification of thought showed me a world brighter, more joyous than before, and brought me renewed energy, new ideas, new strength, and new faith in God.
