"Common Sense" quotes passages from the Scriptures...

"Common Sense" quotes passages from the Scriptures which seem to him to prove that Christ is God. If, however, he were to examine the whole of the references to the Christ in the Bible, he would find ample support and proof of the teachings of Christian Science concerning the Christ, that though the Christ is at one with God—the reflection of God—and forever inseparable from God, yet Christ is not God Himself, but always His manifestation.

Christian Science is healing both the sick and the sinner, and herein lies the proof that its teaching is in accord with that of the Master; for did he not say, "These signs shall follow them that believe"? Christian Science, though discovered less than seventy years ago, is not new, but is a return to the primitive Christianity of the early Christians which the churches of today have departed from.

"Common Sense" claims that the church to which he belongs possesses the exclusive rights to interpret the Scriptures by divine authority. To this claim Christian Scientists reply, in the words of Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 28): "While respecting all that is good in the Church or out of it, one's consecration to Christ is more on the ground of demonstration than of profession. In conscience, we cannot hold to beliefs outgrown; and by understanding more of the divine Principle of the deathless Christ, we are enabled to heal the sick and to triumph over sin."
