When Christian Science was presented to me by a friend in a request to attend a Christian Science lecture, I was in a pitiful condition physically, having been told that I should have to undergo an operation for a severe case of appendicitis, but that on account of my weakened condition the outcome was doubtful. Having two very small children, I wondered day and night what would happen to them, and this worry developed into a very nervous and despondent condition.

After attending the lecture I went to two Christian Science church services, but they seemed very vague to me. However, while I was singing a hymn during one of the services, things became clearer and brighter. Four years passed with healings with the help of a practitioner before I realized that there was something for me to do. My gratitude for the loving-kindness and patience which have been shown me by Christian Scientists is beyond any human expression.

I have had two cases of healing by mental surgery, one of which was the removal of carious bone from a finger. This experience was indeed a beautiful proof of God's care. I learned that "Love is the liberator" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 225); and fear did not enter my thought, although the healing was not complete for five months. This experience inspired me to study our Leader's books; and many beautiful statements which stood out at that time have lighted my way since then.
