Under the marginal heading "Recognition of benefits," on page 372 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy has written, "In Christian Science, a denial of Truth is fatal, while a just acknowledgment of Truth and of what it has done for us is an effectual help." And so it is with a sincere desire to pay, in part, the debt of gratitude due our beloved Leader, and to help others along the way, that I am prompted to tell something of the many blessings and the numerous healings that I have experienced through the study and application of Christian Science.
From early boyhood I was afflicted with neuritis. The attacks were extremely painful and often lasted for a week or more, during which time my arm would hang limp at my side. As I grew older the attacks were more frequent and severe, the last one, coming while I was still very young in Science, being the most severe of all. But with the help of a Christian Science practitioner this ailment was completely healed within forty-eight hours, and the healing has been permanent. Since that time I have experienced numerous healings, among them those of chronic constipation, colds, burns, bee sting, and pleurisy.
I am most grateful also for the sense of protection I have enjoyed since becoming a student of Christian Science, thus demonstrating that this Science is a preventive as well as curative agency. During the past eight or ten years I have driven more than a quarter of a million miles, which has taken me across the continent and into many of our larger cities, and during this time I have never had a serious accident; indeed, I have scarcely had an unpleasant experience. But, grateful as I am for these blessings, I am still more grateful for the freedom I am gaining from fear, worry, and discouragement; and I am especially grateful for the healing of grief and a sense of loss and separation at the passing on of a loved one. Words are inadequate to express the deep sense of gratitude I feel for the slight progress I have made and for the understanding gained of this religion of Love, a religion that is so practical that we may apply it to every activity of our daily lives, and that always meets our every need. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for the joyous experience of class instruction.
