The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Auburn and Lewiston, Maine (First Church).

Lecturer: Frank Bell; introduced by Miss Cora M. Gowell, who said:—

In Psalms we read, "He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." A proof of this Scriptural promise came to me early in my study of Christian Science. About nineteen years ago, while working in another state, I awoke one morning physically unable to think of going to work. A few days before, a Christian Science lecture had been given in this city, and I received the daily paper containing a partial account of it. Now in this time of need I turned to the printed lecture, entitled "The Allness of God and the Nothingness of Matter." It contained passages from the Bible and quotations from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy which illumined the quoted Scripture. As I read there came to me an honest desire to understand Christian Science. There was an instantaneous healing of the physical difficulty, and I was at work that morning on time.
