My study of Christian Science began about twenty-two...
My study of Christian Science began about twenty-two years ago, for no particular reason except that from time to time I had felt the beneficent rays of light shed from this study by two other members of my family. I had accepted with composure the ultimatum from two physicians in different cities that I could not be helped further in the overcoming of a so-called incurable disease, and should probably only live to be about thirty.
As I read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 350), " 'The Word was made flesh.' Divine Truth must be known by its effects on the body as well as on the mind, before the Science of being can be demonstrated," I could clearly understand how a healing demonstration could take place. With that understanding, fear vanished and the healing was effected through the help of a practitioner. Since then my life has been very full of the joys of rearing a family of children with the help of Christian Science. A daughter, nineteen years old, has had many proofs of God's care. From babyhood she exhibited an unpleasant disposition, but shortly after the age of twelve she herself agreed to work metaphysically to change this unhappy condition. Soon all traces of this error vanished, and today she is loving, sweet, and thoughtful of others.
Some time ago, through an unsigned note in our mail box, the youngest member of our family was indicated as an intended ransom victim. At first I was alarmed, but the children were so imbued with the teachings of Science that they corrected my thought at every fearful expression; and a sister explained that the threat came from an evil mind, and that an evil mind is not real, consequently it was our duty to claim man's rightful heritage. Needless to say, we never again heard anything of that threat.
