My first healing in Christian Science occurred many years ago when I was suffering from an attack of acute rheumatism, which was so severe that I had to have assistance even to dress myself, and was unable to go to my work. I had seen my father suffer for many years with this same ailment, employing several physicians and taking many remedies with no permanent relief, but with only added suffering from the effects of medicines; so I had no faith in these methods and thus was doing practically nothing to obtain relief and healing.

Just at this time a member of the local Christian Science church called at our home and seeing my condition asked me if I should like to have her work for me in Christian Science. I gladly accepted, and, much to my surprise, was completely healed by this one treatment, and was able to return to my business in a day or two. I have never had a return of this complaint, and ever since that time, a period of over thirty years, Christian Science has been the only physician in our home. Previous to this experience my wife had received a quick healing through Christian Science treatment, but I could not seem to get interested in reading the textbook or in studying the Lesson-Sermons. However, this time I naturally wanted to know what had healed me, and from then on I began to read and study in earnest.

Some years later, while struggling with a serious internal physical trouble, I was suddenly confronted with a difficult business problem in which failure and loss seemed imminent, but with the aid of Christian Science I received such a sense of physical freedom that I was able to be at my office each day and to continue the business for some months, until all obligations were met in full.
