When I was ten years old a lady who was a Christian Scientist came to visit in the small town in which I lived. She told me something of God's love for His perfect creation, and explained that a loving Father could not possibly send sickness or unhappiness to His beloved children.

Soon after she went away I was stricken with an illness which I had had periodically since babyhood. Remembering the fact of God's love, I was able to see the unreality of this disease, which the doctors had been unable to diagnose or to heal; and to the astonishment of my family I arose, dressed myself, and was completely and permanently healed.

Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 449), "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." This "grain" which had been seen and demonstrated never left my thought, although it was several years before we moved to a city in which Christian Science services were held, and where I first saw a copy of the textbook.
