When Christian Science was presented to me over nineteen...
When Christian Science was presented to me over nineteen years ago I was physically and mentally ill. Five years before this I had had a nervous breakdown, and had doctored continuously during those five years without getting any relief. A bottle of ammonia was my constant companion, as inhaling this seemed to enable me to get my breath. I was not able to sleep and ate very little. While I was going through this ordeal a gathering formed in my head and for three weeks I could not lie down. I was told that I should have to give up my work and go to a sanatorium.
Then I turned to Christian Science, and through the help of a practitioner I was healed in three treatments of all these discordant conditions. Life became worth living, for I had found the "pearl of great price." Since then I have been healed of influenza, pneumonia, sprains, sick headaches, burns, bruises, and inflammation of the bowels; also of resentment, a sense of lack, and of sorrow due to the passing on of loved ones. Christian Science has brought health, peace, contentment, and happiness into my life. I am grateful for the protection it has been at all times.
I had such a wonderful proof of this protection a few years ago when a party of four of us started on a mountain trip on horseback. The first day out on the trail our pack horse slipped and fell, knocking my horse down, and the two of them rolled twenty feet down the mountain side. I was left sitting in the trail, unharmed. After getting the horses up, we found that they were not even scratched and we adjusted our pack and continued on our way with no aftereffects. The trip took three days. We were all students of Christian Science, and we found afterwards that the same thought had come to each of us: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind" (Science and Health, p. 424).
