Audience with the Divine
WHAT kind of man is it that may gain immediate audience with a king? Can a disloyal subject gain such a hearing, or a lawbreaker, or one who is known to be opposed to the sovereignty of that king? Indeed, no! Disloyalty could not gain private audience with a royal personage. In order to obtain such audience an individual would need to be known as loyal to the ruler.
So in seeking God, "the King eternal, immortal, invisible," we find that obedience and fidelity to the omnipotence of God, in word and deed, usher human thought into the realization of His ever-presence. Constantly to affirm the power of good, and deny that any other power exists or operates, is necessary. In this way thought is admitted into the realm of good, the presence of God. Thus we may commune with God, Spirit, hear His commands, listen to His voice, acknowledge His power, and receive His blessings.
In the chapter on Prayer in the Christian Science textbook Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 15), "Lips must be mute and materialism silent, that man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error." By having such audience with the divine, we learn to know the glorious gifts which the Father bestows upon man. We hear of His unquenchable love for man, and find the glory of eternal life. In this way we also learn of the unlimited abundance which the Father has for all in the infinite storehouse of good. We learn that man, as the image of God, the perfect One and All, is complete, now and forever. Hearing the Word of God, we are satisfied, knowing that this truth concerning man is the only truth concerning our real selves, now and forever. Through communion with Spirit it is possible to realize more fully day by day our inheritance as "heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ."
