The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (Thirteenth Church).
Lecturer: John Ellis Sedman; introduced by Albert W. Bee, Jr., who said:—
In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy has written (Pref., p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Surely today, as perhaps never before, mankind feels the need of something to lean upon—a sustaining power. We all long for the day "big with blessings," with happiness, but first must come the realization that to-day is big—big because man has an opportunity to gain an understanding of God, of his true selfhood and his place in the universe; big with opportunity to make practical use of this understanding in solving his own problems and helping others. And this is the way to happiness, for helpfulness and happiness are close kin.
