I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing,...
I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, nor even in the search for happiness, but because I longed to be better. I have since been taught in Science that it is our divine right to be happy; and more than once I have experienced the blessing of touching the hem of the healing garment of Christ.
At one time, when a dear one had undergone an operation, with serious aftereffects, I did some strenuous nursing, staying at the hospital all day and sometimes sitting up at night. This lasted for about two months. The patient was eventually healed through Christian Science treatment, the healing being acknowledged even by the attending doctors.
A few days before the removal of the patient from the hospital, I contracted a so-called infectious disease, erysipelas. The nurses told my husband that this condition was very dangerous, that they had lost three such cases recently. That night I had high fever. I clung so closely to God that never for a moment did the thought occur to me that this illness had come to stay, for I had experienced Christian Science healing often. I kept thanking God with all my heart for my perfect state of being, knowing that discordant conditions are utterly unreal. In the face of physical discomfort, I kept declaring my immunity from disease and my completeness as the beloved child of God, the one Father. The harmonious thoughts of my family, who are all Christian Scientists, were a wonderful support. In about a fortnight I was able to be at my desk as Second Reader.
