Supporting Our New Publishing House

CHRISTIAN SCIENTISTS all over the world are rejoicing in the building of the new Publishing House. Have we realized that the new building stands for enlarged activity, not only in the sending forth of literature, but in the clearer appreciation of our opportunity to give? As we compare the former Publishing House with the new building, it is clearly impressed upon our thought that our work of supporting this enlarged activity has just begun. We must continue our support, both metaphysically and financially, through our subscriptions to the Christian Science periodicals, including the Monitor, which are published in the new building.

One who had been conscientiously striving to prove the power of God to overcome the erroneous belief in lack had a firm conviction that if she refused to be governed by the suggestion that she could not continue her subscriptions to the periodicals and her contributions to the church, her daily supplies would be forthcoming. Each time it became necessary to renew the subscriptions error talked more loudly than before, presenting the claim of limited supply; but the student held firmly to her conviction. She also heeded the voice of Truth and increased her contributions to the church, which needed added support. In this giving, divine Love sustained her and provided for her every need; and the way was also opened for her to visit the Christian Science Sanatorium at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, that haven of rest where the seeker may touch the hem of Christ's garment, and, recognizing the presence and power of divine Love, go forth with renewed strength.

When it is time to renew our subscriptions, and mortal mind tempts us with the argument that it is not possible for us to do so, let us be alert to recognize that possibly such a suggestion is an attempt to put personal desires before our duty to the Cause of Christian Science, that great gift from God through our Leader. At such a time it will be helpful to remind ourselves of Section 14 of Article VIII, in the Church Manual, where Mrs. Eddy says, in part, "It shall be the privilege and duty of every member who can afford it, to subscribe for the periodicals which are the organs of this Church."
