Service

ONLY to hold a cup of water cool
To lips that thirst for welling drafts of Life,
Instead of earth's salt pools of bitterness
Brimmed with illusions—
This is what I ask,
Leaning on strength divine to do my joyful task.

Ah! To be lifted up to heights of Mind,
That I may help some brother in his need
To know the nothingness of mortal sense
And glimpse reality,
is what I pray
May be my wondrous privilege from day to day.

Just to be poised and still, when conflict dire
Seems raging round. Just to let Truth's clear light
Dispel the clouds and lull the storm to peace—
Error's destruction.
This is what I claim:
Dominion over all in God's almighty name.
