Nineteen years ago I took a business trip to Honolulu...
Nineteen years ago I took a business trip to Honolulu and was standed there without money, friends, or work, and was much discouraged; but after attending Sunday services at a Christian Science church I felt new hope within me and found a splendid position the following week. This did not come through any personal recommendation, but through my changed mental attitude. However, I did not recognize the source of this blessing, nor the gratitude I owed as a direct answer to prayer, but thought it was "good luck." Neither did I see any special need to continue active interest in church.
Seven years later found me in a city in New York State, in a similar condition of despair, with an added unbearable grief at the loss of my dear mother. Again at my wits' end, I attended a Christian Science church service, and again I felt renewed hope, which bore fruit in good business. This time I realized the truth of what Jacob said: "Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not." Therfore I earnestly wanted to learn more of this wonderful truth by studying the textbook. This study quickly healed me of all sense of grief and destroyed the least desire for so-called "temperate" use of liquor or tobacco. Later I experienced healings of bruises and other physical discords, and protection from danger; for all of which I am indeed very grateful, but still more so for the mental and spiritual uplifting that comes through the study and application of Christian Science.
I am grateful for the lectures, the periodicals, and that excellent international daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor; also for class instruction. membership in The Mother Church, and the privilege of serving in the activities of a branch church.
