Like many others I turned to Christian Science for...
Like many others I turned to Christian Science for physical healing only after all hope in material means had been exhausted. That "man's extremity is God's opportunity" was beautifully proved to me four years ago.
Ten years of physical suffering with one capital operation had culminated in a complete nervous breakdown. For five days and nights I had neither eaten nor slept. It was at this time that a friend recommended my trying Christian Science. I consented to see a practitioner, but did not ask for help at that time. I did, however, borrow Science and Health and read several chapters, but without understanding anything I read.
Three days after the practitioner's first visit I took a sudden turn for the worse. Then I asked that the practitioner be sent for. She came into my room about noon, and I was suffering so much I do not remember what I said to her or she to me. She sat quietly by my bedside for about fifteen minutes. I cannot describe my feelings other than to say that at the end of that time I was free from pain and all I wanted was to sleep, which I did. I awoke two hours later completely healed of all pain, although in ten years I had never known one hour's freedom from the gnawing pains of adhesions caused by the capital operation. I immediately rose from my bed, dressed myself, and after eating a hearty meal went about my work without even a sense of fatigue. Chronic constipation and periodic sick headaches that would confine me to bed four or five days out of every month of my life completely disappeared in that healing.
