When quite a young girl, I left home because of resentment...
When quite a young girl, I left home because of resentment toward a member of my family. Many years later this member passed on, leaving a small daughter, who came to my home to live. At this time I had been in Christian Science for about six years, but I had never given up the resentment toward the child's mother. I began to see qualities expressed in the child which had been seen in the mother, and often the suggestion would come to me to send her away, but a dear friend would always tell me that my duty was to heal the situation, not to send the child away. Many inharmonious scenes were experience, but always the statement came to me from Science and Health (p. 22), "When the smoke of battle clears away, you will discern the good you have done, and receive according to your deserving."
It took several years for me to receive the healing of resentment, but through the faithful study and application of the truths as given in the textbook, I learned that God loves His children, and that I, being the reflection of God, knew how to express love only. That child is now a member of a branch church and has a child of her own who attends the Christian Science Sunday School.
In our home healings of tonsillitis, influenza, broken finger, mumps, scarlet fever, and inflammatory rheumatism have taken place through the application of Christian Science. The following passage has helped me to prevent and also to overcome many so-called children's diseases: "And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him."
