"Good will toward men"

Good will is God's will manifested, divine Love reflected, in the kindly affection that brings heaven, harmony, to human relationships on earth. As human desire becomes subjugated to Spirit, then good will, a condition of self-conquest, is made manifest. Christ Jesus' prayer, "Not my will, but thine, be done," is interpreted by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 33) as follows: "Let not the flesh, but the Spirit, be represented in me. This is the new understanding of spiritual Love."

Honest prayer demands close communion with God, Principle. It demands the acknowledgment of good as omnipotent, supreme, and the unseeing of evil. It means being confident of the infinity of God, Spirit, and of Spirit's ideas. Before this heavenly unity, evil fades away, for loving good supremely precludes evil's admission into consciousness.

Starting with perfect Principle, Love, all can prove through the grace of God that "now are we the sons of God." We need a tender heart, the Christlike affection which brings out perfection. We need compassion and patience when facing the faults of others, as well as courageous spirit spirit towards overcoming our own.
