Right Training of Children
To judge from contemporary writings, the problems which beset the upbringing of children seem, to many parents, increasingly difficult to solve. This should serve to turn them from unsatisfactory human advice to the spiritual solution indicated in the words, "Ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus." For, even though human parents may find their children's future, employment, and sustenance seeming at times to be doubtful and insecure, we cannot doubt that the children of God are as well and safely provided for and employed as the Father Himself.
How to entertain, develop, make our own, and use the spiritual concept of sonship is the lesson and message brought to us by Christian Science. Doubtless every Christian child knows the Lord's Prayer, and the first necessity is to understand something of the Father to whom we pray. By calling Him "Father," we name ourselves His children, and as such we partake of His nature. So, knowledge of the Father will lead us into knowledge of our true selves.
"God is a Spirit," said Jesus. Since God, our Father, is Spirit, our real identity is spiritual. It follows that we must be willing and ready to think of our true selves as spiritual, as Mind's ideas, and ready to recognize and use the privileges and powers of our sonship.
