Words are a poor—an almost impossible—medium for expressing my deep love and heartfelt gratitude to God for leading me to an understanding of the healing power of Truth; and for Mrs. Eddy's purity of thought, her unselfed love and tireless labor which enabled her to put her great work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," within reach of all earnest seekers. That the truth unfolded in its pages heals, I can gladly testify. In April, 1932, when I had been studying barely two months, my left leg crashed through a thick pane of glass. Gratitude must here be expressed for the thought which flashed through my mind as this occurred; not the name of the nearest doctor, as would have been the case a few months earlier, but the words from Science and Health (p. 424), "Accidents are unknown to God." I held to this thought, and from that moment I realized His ever loving care and gentle presence.
The result to the knee was seemingly disastrous. The bone was completely uncovered, yet I was enabled to walk down a flight of stairs unaided. While I bathed the wound and replaced the flesh where it belonged, a practitioner was called on the telephone, and through her loving work and clear thought the bleeding practically ceased. Later when she came to me, a nurse was obtained to dress the leg, as previously it had merely been wrapped loosely in a towel. The only material means used, however, were water and plain lint, kept in place by a bandage; so beautifully simple as against many stitches, a leg in splints for months, and a permanently stiff knee, suggested by a surgeon.
I suffered no pain, nor did the leg swell. There was a suggestion at first that it would not lock to take my weight; but this was overcome, and in about a fortnight I could stand, though walking took longer. The knee is now entirely straight and normal, and I can walk and dance as freely as before, dancing having been my profession.
