This testimony is offered as a humble expression of gratitude for the healing and regenerative power of Christian Science, and because of a sincere desire to let my light so shine that others may see that good does work in human consciousness when there is the willingness to sink the false sense of self and to be honest.
My mother had a very wonderful healing in Christian Science about the year 1899, and was a practitioner for many years. I accepted its teachings more as a matter of course than because of any desire to be deeply interested. If problems came up it was always mother who solved them for me. I did no work for myself. Consequently when the testing time came I was found wanting.
In 1916 she passed on. Her passing was such a blow to me that I turned completely against the very name of Christian Science, and for nearly eleven years lost no opportunity to criticize and condemn it and to endeavor to persecute anyone who I thought might be interested in it. While on a trip in the East I picked up a copy of The Christian Science Journal and became interested. From then on a change came over me. Into my consciousness swept a wave of love and humbleness such as I had never known before. All resentment dissolved and the bitterness fled. I realized that I could never get away from Christian Science because it is the truth, so I decided to take up its study in earnest.
