A doctor is quoted as saying, "Christian Science is an old pagan philosophy decorated in the discarded rags and tags of medieval Christianity."

May I quote in answer to this a few lines from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," written by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science (p. 126): "I have demonstrated through Mind the effects of Truth on the health, longevity, and morals of men; and I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles. The Bible has been my only authority."

In referring to Mary Baker Eddy the doctor is reported to have said: "She attained a large following which still carries on, although it is now reaching a stage of disintegration." This statement is misleading and needs to be corrected. Christian Science, the religion which has attracted such a large following, is scientific and demonstrable. Mrs. Eddy writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 248), "Your highest inspiration is found nearest the divine Principle and nearest the scientific expression of Truth." A system which demands such a basis for thought as this does not tend toward disintegration.
