Invulnerable
Should
man throw stones to break the sun's great might,
He would but tire himself at each endeavor;
The stones reach not the sun, whose undimmed light
Shines on to bless and benefit forever.
Such are the foolish ways of mortal mind,
Whose base suggestions vainly strive to sever
Man's oneness with his Father. But we find
That carnal weapons touch perfection never.
The shafts of error fall to left and right,
Or vanish in a misty haze behind;
Or fall, forgotten, in dim error's night ...
While man stands firm, unharmed, all-loving, kind.
Let mortal mind fling stones of doubt or fear,
Of enmity against God's man eternal!
Man stands, reflecting good, untouched and dear
In all the joy and strength of peace supernal.
