Communion

Welcome, welcome, unseen guest,
Thou art come and we are blessed!
We would sit and sup with thee,
In Soul's sacred sanctuary.

Not symbolic bread and wine,
But its substance, Life divine,
Will tonight enrich and bless
All within our consciousness.

Pain and sorrow pressed us sore,
Poverty beat at our door.
Fear brought ignorance and sin,
But we would not let them in.

Watchfulness, our porter, came,
Barred the portal in thy name.
Prayer said, Listen for his voice;
Joy and courage sang, Rejoice.

Faith that trod the pilgrim way
Taught us how to wait and pray,
Till love lit the golden light,
In our upper room tonight.

Welcome, welcome, unseen guest,
Thou art come, and we are blessed.
Satisfied we rest in thee.
Shepherd, seal this sanctuary!
