The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Joliet, Illinois (First Church).

Lecturer: Judge Frederick C. Hill; introduced by Arthur L. Stanersen, who said:—

History indicates that in times of distress and adversity, when material aids have failed, men have turned to religion, have looked to a power outside of themselves for help. It seems that men do not, as a rule, seek God except in times of trouble. The Psalmist said, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes." Christian Science afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes." Christian Science teaches that God is the divine Principle of all existence, that man is governed by God's law, the law of good, and shows how, through the understanding of this truth, mankind can eliminate the distressing effects of erroneous thinking. From this lecture we shall learn more of divine law, and this understanding, if honestly applied, will enable each one here to prove that Truth has lost none of its healing power.
