It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I write this testimony. I cannot be grateful enough for all that Christian Science has done for me.
From the year 1925 I never knew what it was to be free from pain until I was healed through Christian Science in 1931. I had been under constant medical treatment in various parts of the world, had undergone several operations, and was finally told in July, 1929, that I was incurable, as I was suffering from chronic pancreatitis, and that it was useless for me ever to think of earning a living again. I had to enter the local hospital for incurables, where I was kept as free as possible from pain by the constant injection of morphia. In October, 1931, a friend who is not a Christian Scientist, told me about a healing through Christian Science of which he had heard. This so encouraged me that I took steps to find out about this Science, although I must admit that I was rather dubious at the time. I thank God that I took these steps for, through the loving help of a practitioner and the study of Science and Health, I was completely healed within a month, all pain entirely disappearing after the third visit from the practitioner. This was all the more remarkable on account of the constant and heavy injections of morphia that I had been having, and was a matter of considerable comment by the doctors interested in my case. At the time of my healing, when I told the doctors that I did not require any more morphia, I was informed that I would become insane if I stopped it at once, but that I might be able to break off gradually in six months; but this was done in almost as many weeks without suffering any ill effects.
Words are totally inadequate to express my gratitude and thanks for all that Christian Science has done for me. It has given me a wonderful feeling of peace and contentment, and has enabled me to understand God better than ever before; but I am still more grateful for the regeneration that I have undergone. I hope and pray to repay my debt to God by consecrating my life to Christian Science. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of attending our church, for Mrs. Eddy's beautiful revelations of Truth, and for all that Christian Science is doing for the world.—W. Curtiss Pratt, Sea Point, Cape Town, South Africa.
