Love's Tender Calling

O Love divine, we hear Thy tender calling,
As sheep that hear their shepherd's voice each day,
And joyfully we leave our weary searching
For rest, to follow Thee on homeward way.
From mountain side or widely spreading meadow,
From rock-bound shore or burning desert sand,
Tis Thine to call, ours to obey the saying:
Come unto me and rest, O ye of every land.

The light that shines through every holy purpose,
The light that e'er dispels all mortal gloom,
Gleams far and high throughout the whole creation,
To lead us on in God's unending noon.
O Life eternal, Thou art ever proving
Thy truth, whose power makes all Thy creatures free.
And Love, O Love divine! Thy tender calling
Is ever bringing us to home, to heaven, to Thee.
