In 1923, after I had had an operation, I was told that I must undergo another later, but that I was too weak for it then. I faced the future full of fear and in great pain. Then I went to a specialist. At first he brought me relief by means of medicines; but soon the pain in the abdomen became so severe that he said steps must be taken to have the operation.

Just at that time, in my extreme need, a copy of Der Herold der Christian Science was brought into my home. What I read there was like a revelation to me; I did not understand all of it, but I had full confidence that God would heal me. Two days later I was again taking care of my housework. After eight weeks I went to the physician for examination, and he assured me that there was no longer anything present to require an operation. Great were my joy and gratitude. Then I attended regularly the Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings; and I also purchased "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Through its study I have been healed of headache, limbago, and of inflammation of the throat which I had had from childhood. Blisters due to burns, which disfigured my face, were quickly healed through loving help, so that my face was normal again within a few days. When my youngest child was born in January, 1931, the doctor was afraid of encountering grave difficulties; but through faithful Christian Science treatment the birth took place in a normal way. When the little fellow was eight weeks old, he began to lose weight, and at a clinic (a compulsory clinic for infants) it was said to be a case of convulsions. I was told that the child must be put under medical treatment or else his legs would be crooked. But we intrusted him to God's protection, while a practitioner gave us help. Soon after the first treatment the child became more active; he enjoyed his food, and began to walk alone at the age of ten months. That was a wonderful proof to us of God's ever present care.

Words are not sufficient to express my gratitude for all the good which I have experienced through Christian Science; for it has been our only physician and our only help for a long time. It is my greatest desire to prove my gratitude to God and to our Leader through a "life that approaches the supreme good" (Science and Health, p. 496).
