After being under the care of many physicians for four...
After being under the care of many physicians for four years and suffering much, I turned to Christian Science for help at a friend's recommendation, and was healed of a so-called incurable stomach trouble and nervous disorder while reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This healing aroused me to serious study, and a little later I was able to lay aside glasses which I had worn since childhood. My parents had always doubted these healings, but when a materia medica examination for army service proved that my eyesight had been completely restored, there was no further question in regard to the healing. Since then it has been proved in my experience many times that the Christ is ever present to heal and bless.
A more recent healing has been a great inspiration to me. Upon returning to my home one evening I was suddenly stricken with chills and intense pain, and it seemed impossible for me to rise above the discord. Within a few hours I manifested every symptom of influenza in a severe form. A Christian Science practitioner was called, and the answer on the telephone was for me to sing. I had long since learned the value of rejoicing, so a member of my family helped me to sit up and I sang or read sixty hymns. Then I attempted to prepare for my business duties, but the fear was great and it seemed wise to call upon a Christian Science nurse for assistance. I shall never forget her first remarks upon entering my room. She said, "You are believing a lie; there is not a sick person in this household." Within twenty-four hours I was able to take up any necessary work.
I am unceasingly grateful to our Leader for her untiring love for mankind; for her every provision for the dissemination of the knowledge of Christian Science; also that Christian Science has opened the Bible to me and enabled me to know God and Christ Jesus, our beloved Master.
