The Healing Touch
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 372) we read the following words: "In Christian Science, a denial of Truth is fatal, while a just acknowledgment of Truth and of what it has done for us is an effectual help." And on page 79 of the same book we read, "Giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us."
In this blessed service our giving is not always expressed through the loaves and fishes, but may consist of our sharing with others the spiritual blessings which have come to us through the study and application of Christian Science, telling them the wonderful story of the overcoming—through the truth—of sin, sickness, or sorrow. As we lovingly and sincerely express gratitude for these blessings, at the same time we extend hope and encouragement to those who may be hungering and thirsting to hear of some experience perhaps exactly such as we have to tell; and our giving does not impoverish but still further enriches us.
We find help in thoughtful study of the following lines in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 24): "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy disease' (Psalm 103:3)." Then, remembering that the demonstration of healing is from God, we are assured that He likewise will care for the speaking, as we fulfill the part required of us in obedience. A dictionary defines "testimony" as "a statement or affirmation of a fact, as before a court." Thus it can be seen why our beloved Leader felt the high importance of our testimony meetings, which provide a place and opportunity wherein we may make our grateful acknowledgment of healing through Christian Science.
