I want to express my love and deep gratitude for Christian Science
I want to express my love and deep gratitude for Christian Science. Before I knew much about it I thought of it as a beautiful religion, and tried to interest a sister-in-law in its healing power. She was in dire need, and materia medica could not help her. However, she did not want it, and so the very copy of Science and Health which I had purchased for her was the one I afterward studied. Nevertheless, it seemed as though I had to go through deep waters before I was ready to turn to Christian Science. My first healing was of heart trouble, which manifested itself in the loss of control over my limbs, and resulted from grief at the passing on of a baby son. I then realized that only Christian Science could help me, so I turned to it and appealed to a practitioner for help and was instantaneously healed of both troubles. This turned me to the earnest study of Christian Science.
A short time after that I was attacked by a very severe ailment, and immediately called for help. During the night when the condition seemed unbearable there came to my consciousness the spiritual interpretation of a sentence from the Lord's Prayer as given in the textbook (p. 17), "And God leadeth us not into temptation, but delivereth us from sin, disease, and death;" immediately I was relieved and was able to sleep, which proved the Bible statement that God is "a very present help in trouble." There were many discordant conditions to be healed, many erroneous thoughts and traits to be replaced by love, and when I was obedient to its dictates divine Love met my needs.
I have had healings of sore throat, fever, colds, backaches, stomach disorders, and an abscessed tooth. Through all these difficulties the practitioner lovingly and untiringly helped me. Then it was necessary for me to turn to divine Love as the source of my supply. It seemed that there was no work to be had, but I am grateful to say that I was able to find a place three times, each time going higher in this line of work which was new to me. It was necessary in the last position for me to make trips to another state quite frequently, and I am grateful to say that there was no sense of loneliness for the members of my family. Previous to coming into Christian Science, even when on a pleasure tour, I had had to curtail my trip on account of loneliness. The work of the practitioner and my own earnest study and application of what I was learning about divine Love's omnipotence and omnipresence, met every inharmonious condition as it presented itself. I can only say, "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift."
