Freedom
One of a group of men who were discussing prohibition remarked that when you take liquor away from a man you take away his freedom. In this group was a young student of Christian Science who had been healed of the liquor habit through his study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Remembering his deep and sincere gratitude for the healing of that habit of many years' standing, he turned to God in renewed gratitude for the higher sense of freedom gained.
The truth revealed in Christian Science foretells the end of human enslavement to the senses, and, when utilized, removes with certainty the most tenacious forms of error. "Infinite Freedom" is the motto on Truth's banner, establishing man's birthright and dominion. An earnest and prayerful perusal of our Leader's works will remove the shackles of sin, sickness, and death. Being made free through the spiritual understanding thus gained, the student enters into his glorious heritage—realization of his sonship with the Father—and his consciousness is clad with Truth's garments. His vision then becomes clearer and his capacities enlarged, enabling him to be of greater service to mankind.
To a prisoner emerging from restricted surroundings the world holds a promise of a better life. So in Christian Science, in proportion as the student is made free of negative thinking he enters into a life of unhampered activity. His accomplishments increase in proportion as he realizes the spiritual freedom which knows no bounds. On page 228 of Science and Health our Leader writes, "The enslavement of man is not legitimate;" therefore, it is not ordained by God and is without foundation. On the preceding page she writes: "Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free! This is your divine right."
