For about twenty-four years I have experienced the healing...
For about twenty-four years I have experienced the healing and protecting power of Christian Science. During my college days I suffered from a peculiar nervous disorder, and was induced by a neighbor to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I received much benefit, but in the early part of 1913 I had a complete nervous breakdown. I left the small town in the middle west where I resided and went to a near-by city for Christian Science treatment. I arrived about noon, and in the afternoon called upon a practitioner and received treatment; but the excruciating mental suffering that had persisted for seven days did not seem to abate. I called upon another practitioner in the evening at his home and he most forcefully told me that suffering never touches man's real selfhood. I went to my room and began declaring the truth of man's relationship to God, and after a few minutes the intense suffering vanished completely. Many times since, when struggling with the surging waves of mortal mind, that vivid experience has stood out like a powerful beacon light.
My progress in the understanding of Truth has been slow but steady. I have been able to manifest a degree of poise when working under pressure that would not have been possible prior to my study of Christian Science. Many undesirable traits of character have been overcome or greatly lessened. I have been completely healed of constipation.
I have much cause to be grateful to our Leader. It was because of her consecrated life and spirituality of thought that Christian Science was revealed through her to the world. Were it not for the regenerating power of this Science, I probably should not be here today. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for class instruction. I also desire to express my appreciation for the privilege of being a guest in the Christian Science Sanatorium on the Pacific Coast. The loving-kindness of the attendants creates an atmosphere of peace and harmony that is beyond description.
