Words are inadequate to express my sincere gratitude...
Words are inadequate to express my sincere gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, to our beloved Leader, and to the practitioners for the countless blessings I have realized through the study of Christian Science.
After many years in government service, both military and naval, I was discharged as unfit for further service, due to chronic catarrh and chronic gastritis. To material sense I was without home, friends, and employment. I had attended many churches of different denominations, none of which had given me a satisfactory understanding of God, and I had concluded that God was just a myth. In my effort to find consolation I became acquainted with one who was studying Christian Science and was advised to try it, so I began to study at once. The problem of employment was immediately solved, the physical disorders disappeared, the desire for tobacco and liquor left me; and for seven years Christian Science has been my only physician. I have been to sea many times without any return of the physical disorders.
With the help of practitioners I have realized innumerable healings, both physical and mental. Hate, malice, revenge have given place to kinder and more loving thoughts. Twice during the so-called depression I have been able to prove the power of God to lead us into right activities and employment; and the fact that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble," has been demonstrated many times. I am most grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for all the activities of the Christian Science movement.
