It is with deep and heartfelt gratitude that I give this...
It is with deep and heartfelt gratitude that I give this testimony of the healing power of Christian Science. Several years ago, when I was living by myself, I was suddenly taken very ill and was unable to help myself. My neighbors, being alarmed at my condition and fearing the seriousness thereof, called in a lady who had recently come to live in a near-by house, and who proved to be a Christian Scientist. She lovingly came to me and helped me so much that I was able to do my own work the following day. Afterwards she explained to me how I had been helped and what Christian Science teaches. This seemed to be what I had been needing and seeking for years, and at once I began the study in earnest.
Soon afterward I had occasion to apply what I had learned of the truth. I was involved in an accident with a motor cyclist and sustained a very badly crushed ankle, the bone being broken in several places. The same loving friend who had first brought Science to my notice witnessed the accident and, starting help at once, had me taken to her home. Here I spent a fortnight. I rested each day on a couch, but spent none other than the normal time in bed. At the end of this time I went to stay with relatives, who insisted that I should have a doctor to see my ankle. I agreed to this to satisfy them. The doctor stated that the bone had been badly crushed, but that it had set and the healing was progressing harmoniously. Apart from this I had no medical attention. In a very short time I was able to walk, and now am living an active and normal life, walking several miles daily and feeling no ill effects.
It is five years since this occurred, and since that time I have been faced with many problems. One of poisoning stands out to me particularly. A rapid development of material symptoms indicated that I had been poisoned by something that I had drunk. I was not near any practitioner at the time and I had to rely upon my own understanding. I knew that "with God all things are possible;" that He is ever present and never fails us. The condition lasted for five days, but throughout this time I was constantly relying upon my knowledge of perfect God and perfect man. Then the trouble suddenly disappeared, and I realized that I was free.
