From Letters, Substantially as Published

In the interesting "The Man About Town" column of your paper for November 9, Mary Baker Eddy's residence in Stoughton for several years was mentioned, and she was described as the "reputed discoverer of Christian Science." There was added a reference to a claim made many years ago by Mr. Horace T. Wentworth that the discovery of Christian Science should be credited to Mr. P. P. Quimby, of Portland, Maine.

In view of the friendly attitude of your paper toward the Christian Science Mother Church organization, as evidenced from time to time by the articles published regarding the progress of Christian Science, and as evidenced by the fact that you stated that the claim of Mr. Wentworth had already been disputed by my predecessor, Mr. Alfred Farlow, in a letter published in the Boston Transcript in 1903, I trust that the description of Mrs. Eddy as the "reputed" discoverer of Christian Science was not intentional. But as it may, nevertheless, mislead some of your readers, I should appreciate your publishing this letter.
