I am grateful for all the blessings that have come into...
I am grateful for all the blessings that have come into my life since I was healed through Christian Science over six years ago. While calling on a friend at his office I suddenly became very weak and fell to the floor. I was taken to a hospital in an ambulance, and my case was diagnosed as chronic nephritis (kidney disease), high blood pressure, and a diabetic condition. The doctors placed me on a very severe diet, and then I underwent numerous kinds of tests, but all to no purpose. The very best doctors and specialists were consulted, and I also had excellent care from special nurses night and day, but my condition was "nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." I was told that it would be impossible for me to live in Montreal during the winter, and that I should be able to work but very little.
Kind friends who called to see me and noted my deplorable condition, asked if I would try Christian Science. They lovingly took me to their home and sent for a Christian Science practitioner. In less than a month I was entirely healed and back at work, and continued working eight hours a day. The practitioner, quoting Jesus' words, lovingly explained that it is "not that which goeth into the mouth [which] defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth." He took me to his home and I was able to eat a hearty meal, notwithstanding the fact that I had been on a very strict diet. Since then I have been able to eat any and every kind of food in moderation. While the practitioner was working for me all desire for liquor and tobacco also suddenly left me, although I had indulged in their use for thirtyfive years, smoking as many as forty cigarettes a day. I have since been healed of toothache, constipation, tonsillitis, and intestinal grippe.
Although all my healings have been very wonderful, what most appeals to me is the peace and tranquillity that have come into my consciousness. For the working out of these, and numberous other problems through the study and application of Christian Science, I am indeed thankful. The help of practitioners and the understanding gained in Science have lifted me out of lack, unemployment, hatred, revenge, and failure. On looking back I can now see that my discordant condition was brought about entirely by my own wrong thinking, as I became very much disgruntled on returning to Canada after being in the great war for four years; and, like Job, the things that I greatly feared came upon me.
