I wish always to give my best to the Cause of Christian Science...
I wish always to give my best to the Cause of Christian Science as gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, who has taught me how to understand God as the only power.
When I was still a young girl, I longed to find a religion which could enable me to make mankind somewhat happier. I looked for one in the Bible, which I could not understand; and in philosophy, which, though I admired it, remained only words to me. When our little daughter fell seriously ill, I could not find healing in the best medical help. She had suffered for six years, and finally, notwithstanding my praying, I felt I could not believe in a God who permitted so much suffering. Then I heard of Christian Science, but at first it meant nothing to me. My daughter, however, asked for help in Christian Science and was completely healed. I did not turn to it until several months later, when I became ill myself. The doctor ordered me to lie for six weeks with one of my legs very high on cushions. My fear led me to try Christian Science, and a complete healing resulted, not in six weeks but in nine days. The first day that the practitioner came to me, I began to understand that God is Love, who never allows mistakes in His creation. I began to see that the body is but a belief, that errors have their source in wrong thinking, and that we have only to change this thinking and conform to the divine will of God, to make the body harmonious.
With the aid of the inspired book, Science and Health, I began to get the better of these errors, one after another; and very soon everything in our home became more harmonious. The affairs of my husband improved; happiness became ours in every way. I do not say that all instantaneously became perfect; the old thoughts occasionally came back, and sometimes I felt ill, but I never wanted a doctor; and many difficulties were soon mastered. Our children's lives were happier and more prosperous; the youngest daughter, whose healing was mentioned above, is now the happy mother of four healthy children. I have found that for which I longed from my youth, and I am immensely grateful.—(Mrs.) Betty de Stoppelaar-de Gelder, Aerdenhout, Holland.
