The Christian Science textbook was lent to me some...
The Christian Science textbook was lent to me some years ago by a friend of my school days, who knew I needed this book for my help. I casually scanned its pages, but as I could not understand anything written therein, I closed the book and kept it for months unopened. Later, I returned it unread.
Two years afterwards I suffered from a severe illness, including fibrositis, neuritis, sciatica, and lumbago, which kept me bedfast except for very short intervals. The illness lasted for seven months, and during that period I was for some time in hospital so that I might have electric treatment every day.
After seven weeks of the treatment I was able to walk, and thought I was cured. However, I had been home only a few days when I had a relapse, the third I had experienced. I began to see that my help did not lie in the direction I had pursued, for I had taken medicine for many years and found its effects uncertain. At this time a neighbor visited me, bringing Christian Science literature and assuring me that Christian Science could heal me.
