I should like to express my sincere gratitude for many blessings received through the application of Christian Science, and I trust that the healings here recorded may help others to find the light. In 1916, after suffering many months from an internal growth, also a growth in the breast which had the appearance of cancer and which gave me much fear, I was examined by several physicians, all of whom gave me the same answer, namely, that an operation was imperative. This, added to the fact that the physicians had previously told me that my heart was very weak, caused me to be greatly distressed. While I was casting about, very much discouraged, and trying to decide what to do, I spoke to a brother who had been studying Christian Science for some time, telling him of the conclusion reached by the physicians. He immediately told me that if I would give Christian Science the same opportunity to heal me that I had given the physicians, he felt sure my troubles would be over. Also, he gave me some Christian Science literature and asked me to read it.

Although I was very skeptical, I began to read the literature, and toward evening was feeling so much better that I borrowed a copy of the Christian Science textbook, and began to read it. The opening sentence of the Preface, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," impressed me greatly, and I began to read in earnest. After reading the chapter on Prayer several times, I felt an absolute assurance that I was being healed. At the same time I realized that I was gaining an understanding of who and what God is, and of man's relationship to Him, and for this I was very grateful. I had been a member of an orthodox church for many years, but God had always seemed afar off. Now I realized my at-one-ment with Him. I began studying the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly, the Bible, and Science and Health, and attended the Wednesday evening testimony meetings and the Sunday services. In three months I was completely healed of the discordant conditions and was enjoying good health.

At another time, while I was preparing an afternoon meal, a kettle of boiling water was spilled over my body, burning me severely. I immediately began to know the truth as best I could, repeating "the scientific statement of being," as found on page 468 of our textbook by Mrs. Eddy. At the same time I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help. She began work at once, with the result that all sense of pain ceased immediately and within two days all evidence of burn had disappeared.
