"Man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal"

In an illuminating statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy states (p. 428): "The great spiritual fact must be brought out that man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal. We must hold forever the consciousness of existence, and sooner or later, through Christ and Christian Science, we must master sin and death. The evidence of man's immortality will become more apparent, as material beliefs are given up and the immortal facts of being are admitted."

What a priceless treasure it is to learn through divine Science that the material body is not man, that man was never born into matter, does not live or suffer in it, and consequently does not have to die to escape from it, but that the true man is now, ever was, and ever shall be, God's perfect, immortal, changeless, spiritual image and likeness, coexistent and coeternal with Him!

Physiology, contradicting this great spiritual fact, treats only of the material body, which is changing from the moment of human birth to death. Some years ago physiologists taught that the body goes through a complete change every seven years. Today some claim that the time required for this change is about seven months. This illustrates only one of the constantly changing and unreliable theories of materialism.
