Angels, not Fairies

[Written Especially for Children]

On Christmas Day, as we think with loving gratitude of the coming of Jesus, who was to tell us about God, we listen to the angel message of God's love for us. All good is from God, but we have to let it in. In fairy tales we read about fairies who grant wishes, and some children write letters to a white-bearded elf, Santa Claus, who is supposed to come bringing presents in a reindeer sleigh on Christmas Eve. But elves and fairies are not real.

Once a little girl named Mary Baker listened to the same angel voices that brought the tidings of Christ, Truth, to the shepherds on the night when Jesus was born. This little girl tried to understand more and more about God; and so she came to know how to explain the truth.

The little girl grew up and became known as Mary Baker Eddy, who wrote a book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," for us, to give to us what she had learned. On page 581 she explains that "angels" are "God's thoughts passing to man." What a beautiful thing it is that instead of believing in make-believe fairies we understand the truth about God's angels and know that they are everywhere, bringing gifts of His love!
