Dreams

Frightened of dreams!
The little child that shrieks
With terror in a nightmare—haunted sleep—
Wakens to find the tender mother-love
Encompassing. A love so true, so deep,
That dreams take wings. No nightmare can obsess
Where love so tender waits to guard and bless.

Frightened of dreams!
The world stirs in its pain,
Its anguished sense of sickness, loss, and fear,
And, stirring, turns to find God's love again;
Love is divine, omnipotently near.
Earth's dreams are breaking—hear God's loving voice:
Awake! Love's arms encircle thee. Rejoice!
