In a recent issue of your paper there appears a synopsis of a lecture by a clergyman, who took "Suggestion" as his subject. In the course of his remarks he inferred that Christian Science practice is a process of suggestion. This is not the case. Christian Science healing is the method used by Christ Jesus, and the healings wrought by him were certainly not that result of suggestion. He healed through his understanding of Spirit, God, and His spiritual laws. We are told that he came to destroy the works of the devil, which were sin, disease, and death. Now, the devil or evil has never produced anything that is real. God alone has created all reality, and God is Spirit. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 335), "reality" is defined as "spiritual, harmonious, immutable, immortal, divine, eternal." When Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," it was the spiritual truth which he knew that healed the sick. Christian Science, therefore, does not heal through suggestion, but through gaining the Mind of Christ which exposes the unreality of error.

Mrs. Eddy discovered in Christian Science the divine Principle, God, and the laws of eternal Truth, which she has explained very fully in the Christian Science textbook. Every Christian Scientist throughout the world, in the degree of his spiritual understanding, is proving this divine Principle and its rules, in healing the sick and reforming the sinner.
