That "man's extremity is God's opportunity" has indeed been proved by my family and me. In October, 1928, I was to human sense at my extremity mentally, physically, and financially. It was then, when all human aid had failed, that I turned to Christian Science. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for all that this truth has done and is doing for us.
The healing of our financial difficulties was almost instantaneous, as my husband and I both obtained work in the next few days after my first visit to a Christian Science practitioner. Since then our healings have been many, including freedom from the wearing of glasses and the overcoming of colds, headaches—which I was rarely without—burns, cuts, and an uncerated tooth.
While these physical healings were every one wonderful demonstrations of the relationship between God and man, the physical healing which stands out most clearly is that of our eldest son. During the basket-ball season one winter, while practicing for an important game, he slipped and fell on his hip. The fall was so hard that he lost consciousness for a short while. His coach and team mates took him at once to the hospital, where the doctor X-rayed the hip. This all took place without my knowledge, but as soon as I heard about it I telephoned to the hospital and was told that the X-ray plate showed a line across the hip bone which looked very much like a fracture. Fear tried to conquer me, but I held to that statement by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 424), "Accidents are unknown to God,"and I called a practitioner, who lovingly quieted my fears at once.
