Because it has been my happy privilege to know of and...
Because it has been my happy privilege to know of and experience the beneficent ministrations of a most loving and practical religion, Christian Science, it is my sincere desire to express my heartfelt gratitude so that others who may be sorely discouraged and unhappy, as I was, may know how they too may be free, free from every kind of discord, whether it be physical, mental, moral, or financial; for the correct understanding and application of Christian Science will heal every ill "that flesh is heir to."
While teaching in a rural school about fourteen years ago I became unhappy and greatly discouraged with my work because it did not measure up to the standard of success I thought it should. I wondered why this should be, since all my time was spent in thinking about how situations might be improved, but every effort seemed of no avail until I was driven to seek a power outside mere human theories. As I was also suffering greatly from defective vision at that time and had been unable to wear any of the many pairs of glasses to which I had been fitted, I thought Christian Science, which had come to my notice before, might help me for the weak eyesight, as I had heard that people had been healed by it. So I sought the help of a practitioner, and am grateful to say I have had practically no trouble with my eyes since.
Having read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, which had been presented to me by a relative, I had gained a little of its message, and its logic appealed to my reason, but there was much that I did not understand. With the faithful work of the practitioner and my own application of the truths of Christian Science as they unfolded to me, conditions became more harmonious. I learned to have a truer sense of obedience, also to relinquish somewhat a false sense of responsibility. As I had been in such a nervous state that it was difficult to eat or sleep, it surely meant much to find effective relief through clearer thinking and reasoning, as we are taught by the study of Christian Science. I am happy to say that many errors are gradually being overcome as more effort is being made daily to apply the truth, and as a larger sense of love and service to my fellow men is desired and manifested.
