Many years ago, when Christian Science first came to my attention, the hours seemed too filled with the attractions of the day for me to answer the summons that knock at the door of every human heart to herald the Christ. But the seed of this scientific revelation had been sown, and it lay ready for germination until the soil of human beliefs should be broken up by harsh experience and watered by tears of sorrow.
"Man's extremity" eventually came upon me, and after twenty-seven months of despairing illness, during which time there occurred two severe attacks of nervous prostration, a physician was called in consultation by members of my family unaccustomed to any but that aid, while I had earlier chosen Christian Science. Every evidence of cancer of the stomach prevailed, and such was my fearful conviction. The verdict of this conference was that I must be removed from the Pacific Coast, but I was told that medical treatment could do nothing for me.
Conforming to this order I traveled over two thousand miles to reach my mother's hearth before the expected dissolution should take place. A day before reaching my destination I stopped over for a respite from travel, and a friend, who was alarmed at my wan appearance, knowing that I had already had Christian Science treatment, called a practitioner. The assurance from this worker that I could live and again become well was so persuasive that from the hour this light of Truth reached my beclouded mentality its rays increased more and more.
