The True Supervisor

[Written Especially for Young People]

SEVERAL years ago, while watching some children at play, an observer noticed that much time was wasted by the children in arguing and striving among themselves as to who should be the leader. Different ones evidently wished to do all of the leading, the result being a somewhat discordant and discontented group of little children. Those showing meekness and gentleness were much the happier and freer members of the group.

Later on, when a group of children were playing under the direction of a supervisor of play, the results were seen to be entirely different. In the former experience, disputing and arguing seemed to take up most of the time, while now the children started their games almost immediately. Selection of leaders was not made from those who wished to dominate and rule, but from the more loving, receptive type, this type responding quickly to the supervisor; and happier, more joyful play was the outcome. A good lesson was learned from watching these two incidents.

In one's own consciousness how many wrong thoughts seem to dominate and push away the receptive thoughts that would reach out for the good! A dictionary explains the word "supervise" as "to oversee for direction." With just a little care in overseeing and directing, how quickly we can put out the dominating, wrong thinking by using the right thought! And right here, how few of us realize that the erroneous, domineering human will but express so-called dominating mortal mind!
